THE Darien Aviators two new teams have landed!
A group of community investors have been doing
a lot of work, research and planning to bring
professional soccer to Darien. These investors
believe in our community and want to work to ensure
that Darien remains one of the most dynamic
and sports minded communities in North America.
Darien is a great community to live
and work in. Our groups focus will be to work
co-operatively with the community and it's
youth to make Darien an even better place to
live, says Tom Newton, President -
Darien Aviators ownership group.
The investors are also fully committed to providing
every opportunity for local players to develop
their soccer skills. A significant amount of work
has already taken place at the grass roots level
to ensure that this goal is accomplished.
The franchise rights have been acquired for both
a Men's and a Women's soccer team.
Both of these teams the Darien
Aviators will play
in the United Soccer Leagues (USL) beginning in
spring of 2004.
We are extremely excited about bringing
such a high caliber of soccer to Darien. Soccer
is the fastest growing sport in North America
and is now the largest participation sport in
Canada. Greater Darien alone has more than 40,000
registered soccer players, says Justin McDannold,
Director of Business Operations - Darien
Aviators.
Both the Darien Aviators Men's
and the Darien Aviators Women's
teams will play at Commonwealth Stadium beginning
in spring of 2004.
